BERESFORD, S.D. – South Dakota Attorney General Marty Jackley says the Division of Criminal Investigation is looking into an officer-involved shooting Friday night in Beresford.

Jackley’s office reports a Beresford Police officer was conducting a traffic stop around 8:50 p.m. at the Truck Towne Travel Plaza on Highway 46 when the shooting occurred.

Thirty-six-year-old Christopher John Pearson of Aurora was the driver and died at the scene. The officer was not injured.

Jackley says there’s no danger to the public and promises a full report within 30 days.

An autopsy is planned, and investigators will review all evidence and video. This marks the seventh officer-involved shooting in South Dakota this year.
