The Wolf wants to spotlight those in our community who put Service before Self. Let us introduce you to Detective Sergeant Dean Larson. 

Detective Sergeant Dean Larson is on the verge of 21 years of service with the Yankton Police Department. He has been in law enforcement for 24 years and serves the YPD by investigating crimes. Detective Sergeant Larson handles evidence that must be sent to the State Forensic and Health Labs.

Larson has always wanted to help others and continues to make a difference in people’s lives in the city of Yankton. He appreciates all the relationships he has established over his many years of service. An event that Larson finds memorable happened in 2004 handling a mountain lion case in Yankton. “The cat turned and came toward us. That’s something you will never forget,” states Larson.

Making arrests is a regular part of Larson’s duties, but he will never forget when those he had to arrest return to thank him for the care he demonstrates in handling their cases. Some of Detective Sergeant Larson’s favorite past times includes riding dirt bikes and motorcycles You can also find him boating and camping on a regular basis or just taking in some quiet time.
